The Ned

A former Midland Bank built by celebrated English architect Sir Edwin “Ned” Lutyens in 1924 is now a vast hotel, membership club, and after-work playground in the financial district. A joint venture between Soho House founder Nick Jones and Andrew Zobler, whose Sydell Group is behind the NoMad, Line, and Freehand hotels, the Ned contains nine distinct restaurants, 252 guest rooms, and a raft of members-only social spaces, including a rooftop pool with views of St. Paul’s and a basement lounge in the former vault, lined with 3,000 safe-deposit boxes. The look is best described as Edwardian maximalist, from the forest of 92 African verdite columns in the lobby to the fringed lampshades and iron four-posters in the Orient Express–inspired bedrooms.
