Yinka Shonibare MBE “Wind Sculpture (SG) I”

The British-Nigerian artist unveils the latest addition to his Wind Sculpture series of fiberglass sculptures. The public work is hand-painted in the brilliant colors and patterns of batik textiles, and offers a metaphor for the diversity of identities found in social spaces.

One of the city’s leading and largest art fairs continues to champion new ideas and artistic discoveries in its 24th edition, which teems with 193 international galleries presenting works ranging from historical pieces to contemporary projects, in addition to artist commissions and public programs. “Barbara Hepworth: A Matter of Form”

Bringing together more than 25 sculptures and selected paintings spanning the artist’s four-decade long career (beginning in the 1930s) the gallery presents the pioneering modernist sculptor’s first exhibition in the U.S. in nearly 20 years.
Collective Design Fair 2018
Skylight Clarkson North (572 Washington Street)

A dynamic design presence during Armory Arts Week, the design fair’s sixth edition plays host to a lineup of international galleries and designers showcasing vintage and contemporary furniture and design objects. Cy Twombly
Gagosian (522 West 21st Street and 980 Madison Avenue)
OPENS: March 8
The painter is celebrated with two tandem exhibitions, “In Beauty it is finished: Drawings 1951–2008,” and “Coronation of Sesostris,” in Chelsea and the Upper East Side, respectively. While the latter show focuses on a single work created in 2000 (a large-scale interpretation of a day in the life of Egyptian pharaoh Sesostris), the former presents the artist’s first career-spanning exhibition of drawings and works on paper.

In its neighboring west side gallery (555 West 24th Street), Gagosian is also hosting Jeff Koons’s “Easyfun-Ethereal,” an exhibition (opening March 10) of seven large-scale paintings incorporating computer-scanned reproductions of images, often pulled from advertisements, in abstract arrangements.
