Rei Kawakubo debuted an off-the-wall collection at the Comme des Garçons fall/winter 2017 show, with silhouettes defined by exaggerated, curvaceous forms. Kawakubo’s design statement was simply, “the future of silhouette.” Similarly atypical designs by Kawakubo will be on display later this year in “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between,” an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Women in Architecture Awardees Announced
This year’s top Women in Architecture awards went to two Mexican architects. Woman Architect of the Year went to Gabriela Carrillo, cofounder of of Taller Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo, while the Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture was given to Rozana Montiel of Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura.

The Armory Show, which concluded its five-day run on Sunday, reportedly experienced its most successful edition to date. The fair’s leaders made a concerted effort to involve artists more in the event, including new and revamped exhibition sections, as well as studio visits and artist talks.

Rojas on the Roof
Argentinian artist Adrián Villar Rojas is slated to create an installation for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s rooftop garden. It will include approximately 20 large-scale sculptures, which were inspired by pieces on view at the museum itself.

Servants of Scientology
Okwui Enwezor, director of Munich’s Haus der Kunst, has terminated a contract with an employee after complaints about his ties to the Church of Scientology. The employee reportedly tried to draw others into the church, and at least one other supervisory committee member is thought to have done the same. According to a lawyer familiar with the church’s activities in Germany, this was “the most interesting Scientology case we’ve had so far in Germany.”
