Two titans who started in Brooklyn discuss how they teamed up to reshape Lower Manhattan for the better in the wake of a tragedy.
Tuesday evening, Surface hosted Design Dialogues No. 28 at 7 World Trade Center in the heart of Lower Manhattan. Over 150 guests gathered at Silverstein Properties, with beautiful sunset views of the World Trade Center plaza and Santiago Calatrava's Oculus transit hub. Surface editor-in-chief Spencer Bailey sat down with Larry Silverstein, founder of Silverstein Properties, and Robert A.M. Stern, award-winning architect, to talk about what it was like growing up in Brooklyn in the early 20th century, their first experiences working in Manhattan, and how Lower Manhattan is taking shape today. Both have had key roles in developing the area and breathing new life into a once tired part of the city.
