An open secret among people thought to have good taste: It’s all about intuition. That’s the case, anyway, for Emi Moore, whose online boutique, Casa Shop, is a treasure trove of singular objects selected solely on the basis of how they make her feel. “If my heart starts beating fast when I see something, I know I should get it,” says the 26-year-old, who has a penchant for certain luxe materials (onyx, silver, marble, brass) and Modernist sculptors (Barbara Hepworth, Constantin Brancusi). But you won’t find well-known designers in Casa Shop—Moore is concerned with individuality, not status. All the pieces on offer are affordably priced and sourced from flea markets and estate sales; Moore also supports a small cohort of artists she’s discovered herself, such as the ceramist Jude Jelfs. The venture was launched two years ago when, while working as a buyer at the Richmond, Virginia, outpost Need Supply, she decided to do something with her collection of thrift –store finds. Here’s to hoping Moore’s thrill of the hunt never gets old.
