Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops with interiors to drool over.
Location: New York City
Designer: Architecture Works
On offer: Inside a stark cement space, the colors and textiles of India are interpreted through teal-and-gold velvet booths, hot-pink distressed walls, mosaic tiles, and a massive mural of a bejeweled Indian woman by artist Jessica Kollar in the bar and lounge area.
Standout features: Delhi native and rising star chef Sujan Sarkar reimagines Indian flavors with techniques like sous vide and espumas (foams). The cocktail menu is full of progressive renditions such as the Badam Lassi, a spin on a classic milk-based drink with the Goan white spirit Cashew Feni, and the Leh Berry Punch, mescal mixed with Sea Buckthorn syrup, a tiny orange fruit from the Nubra Valley Region.
